It is often said that it is home where the grass is greener, yet again the Honours College alumni had a memorable day on the 13th of November 2021 as the college held a homecoming event at Uganda Christian University.
The event was graced by the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aaron Mushengyenzi, who was also the Guest of Honour, Mrs. Christa Aluka, the Director of Admission and Student’s Records, who represented the Deputy Vice Chancellor for academics Dr. Kitayimbwa John.
Among the alumni present was Mr. Gilbert Nuwagira, Mr. Asiimwe Anthony, Mr. Bernard Mohlo who among others expressed gratitude and pledged to always support the College. Mr. Patson Arinaitwe, Mr. Stephen Daniel, Mr. Peter Nasasira and Mr. Gahimbare Anaud were also able to send in their communication through online means.
Mr Stephen Daniel who is currently working with the National Assembly of Abuja Nigeria highlighted that the skills learned from the college in his years of study are so applicable and helpful in his life and career today. He encouraged the students not to forget the “Why” of their study at the college.
Mr. Peter Nasasira, the president of Honours College Alumni Fellowship, shared that his present leadership skills were attained in his years of study at the college.
Ms. Tumwebaze Pamela, the Head of Department, hailed the alumni for their constant tremendous support, she noted; “Honours College has enjoyed unequalled support from alumni of all generations who have inspired, and even promised to render more support. What would we be without them?”
The homecoming event was coupled with other activities for example handing over of the former committee to the new committee and swearing in of the new leadership, there was also blessing of the Honours College graduates.
Some of the college students presented their projects to the attendees and these included Juan Emmanuella, Emmanuel Isabirye who presented their project on environmental conservation through rescue of plastics to create valuable items such as jewelry. Chemutai Syndia also presented a project that she entitled combating sexual violence against children. She does and intends to continue implementing her project through advocacy and mass education.
Mr. Joshua Ngero, the former vice president, presented a project which he named Umoja Food Basket. Joshua noted; “…this is an agricultural post harvest project to support women maize farmers in Iganga district by providing technology which will in a long run grow their market on finished produce,…” Joshua’s dream is to fight hunger.
The other student that presented a project is Marion Ndyemanya the new Minister of Finance of the college; she presented her maiden project, ‘Anya wrists’. She intends to grow her business and be able to produce mosquito repellant jewelry.
John F Kennedy observed that, “I think the success of any school can be measured by the contribution the alumni make to our national life.” With that said we continue to appreciate our alumni for the tremendous support they render to the college.
