On 31/10/2021, Honours College scholars converged in Thelma Hall. The Meet and Greet session commenced with a meeting of the old and the new cabinets; it was chaired by Ms. Pamela Tumwebaze, the College Head of Department. Between sharing of ideas and exchanging of views, the cabinet members were briefed about expectations that came with holding positions of leadership.
Mr. Joshua Ngero, an outgoing Vice President, shared his experience about the college and how he had a different perception of college not until his peer mentor, Mr. Emmanuel Isabirye, encouraged him to try and vie for the college as well as participate in the different activities. Mr. Ngero and Mr. Isabirye served diligently in the previous cabinets.
Ms. Tumwebaze reacted to Joshua’s Speech, and encouraged scholars to identify individuals with admirable qualities who they could look up to, like the case of Joshua and Moses (Bible).
“Think of people who can grow you and attach yourself to them but they should have the character and the demeanor that are admirable.” She emphasised.
She encouraged scholars to be wise and invited them to look at the lives of the biblical David and his son, Solomon. David messes up, and returns to God, but Solomon doesn’t learn anything from his father’s mistake. Solomon unfortunately fails together with the generations that follow and they all face worse consequences which affect the entire nation.
“Open your eyes and learn, remember that God is preserving you for a nation; if you fail it will affect others and you will be held responsible.” Ms. Tumwebaze stressed.
It is a common saying that work without play makes Jack a dull boy. What is a Meet and Greet, without the games?
Exciting events took place, with a variety of indoor board games on tables, the scholars were compelled to think and win. With games like Ludo, monopoly, cards, twister et cetera. With all this fun, the day was made brighter and smiles on everyone’s face.
Definitely, to some of the scholars, it was a day of their lives.
The aroma of the meal that was in the building struck the scholars as the games were on the table, definitely, a scrumptious meal was to be served.
Nothing puts the games to an end. The games proceeded even after the meal.
Notwithstanding those memories ought to be kept and shared.
The session ended as the scholars’ said cheers and paused for numerous pictures that will create memories for generations.
