School of Research and Postgraduate Studies

The Uganda Christian University School of Research and Postgraduate Studies (SRPGS) was set up to provide quality research and graduate academic services.
It oversees research and postgraduate studies at UCU.
The SRPGS aspires to be “A centre for quality Christ-centred graduate training and knowledge generation in Africa”.

SRPGS Goal

To promote excellence in graduate education and training across the entire University in the areas of instruction, research and professional activity leading to the acquisition, creation and dissemination of new knowledge and the preparation of outstanding scholars and professionals in an atmosphere of free and lively inquiry.

SRPGS Aim

The School of Research and Postgraduate Studies (SRPGS) aims to foster interdisciplinary research and teaching, and to help programs prepare current graduate students as future leaders in teaching, research and development, applied science, policy making, and social service to Uganda and to the wider region.

 

Our Objectives

We are committed to the growth and development of research and scholarly activity in order to:

  • Contribute to original thinking and the creation, growth and dissemination of knowledge.
  • Contribute to scholarship and the body of knowledge which underpins learning and teaching.
  • Contribute to development of useful and commercially exploitable inventions, products and processes.
  • Increase external funding of our activities. We have registered with grants.gov and NIH which are big American funders for scientific research.

Assoc. Prof. Kukunda Elizabeth Bacwayo
Kukunda Elizabeth Bacwayo is an Associate Professor of Governance and Development. She joined UCU in January 2004 in the Faculty of Social Sciences where she worked as Head of Department and Dean of Faculty for 10 years. She now heads the School of Research and Post Graduate Studies since 2015.

She holds a PhD and a Masters degree in International Development, and a Bachelor of Social Work. Her main field of academic and research interest is governance, gender, and policy analysis. She has over 10 years’ experience in teaching and research and over 10 years’ experience as a development practitioner in Public and Private Sectors in Uganda.

Assoc.Prof. Edison Muhindo Kalengyo

Edison Muhindo Kalengyo is an Associate Professor of New Testament at Uganda Christian University (UCU), and is an ordained minister in the Province of the Church of Uganda. He joined UCU in December 1997.

He holds a PhD from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, Master of Philosophy from University of Nottingham in UK, a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine from Makerere University, Bachelor of Divinity from Association of Theological Institutions in Eastern Africa. Edison teaches courses in New Testament, Greek, Missions, African Biblical Interpretation, Homiletics, Christian Spirituality, Church leadership and Management at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Mr. Richard Sebaggala

r. Richard Sebaggala has been a lecturer of Economics at Uganda Christian University, Faculty of Business and Administration since 2007. He is currently the Head of Oil and Gas Unit at the School of Research and Postgraduate Studies.  Richard completed his Master of Science degree in Quantitative Economics and a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Education majoring in Economics from Makerere University. His research interests lie in the area of Development Economics, natural resource economics, family, marriage and development, health, inequality and poverty, and labour market outcomes.

Richard is also an Associate Research Fellow with Policy Analysis and Development Research Institute. Between 2011 and 2012, Richard worked as a Research Manager with Programme for Accessible Health, Communication and Education.

Mrs. Bridget Mugume K. Mugasira
Mrs. Bridget Mugume K. Mugasira is an accomplished Counseling Psychologist / Social Worker based at Uganda Christian University as the Director of Student Affairs. She provides strategic and operational leadership to the Directorate which majorly works towards providing excellent welfare services to students through physical, social, emotional and leadership development. She oversees the following departments; counseling services, catering, sports, students guild, accommodation and International office.

Mrs. Mugasira has served at UCU in various roles since 2006. She is passionate about student holistic development through Faith Learning Leadership and Community engagement and has been working with University students in this regard for over 14 years.

Ugandan Applicants for Degree programs should hold either

  • UCE & UACE Certificate with 2 Principal Passes OR
  • Diploma from a recognized institution of Higher Learning OR
  • A Pass in Mature Age Examination.

Kenyan Applicants for Degree should hold either

  • KCSE holders must have a minimum grade of C+ and above. OR
  • KACE, ‘GCE or A-levels’ applicants must have at least 2 principal passes or its equivalent. OR
  • A Diploma in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution of Higher Learning

Tanzanian Applicants for Degree should hold at least either

  • TCE & TACE Certificate with at least 2 Principal Passes OR
  • Diploma from a recognized institution of Higher Learning

Other International Applicants

  • International applicants must have qualifications that are recognized for University entry in their respective countries.
