Major Spotlights

Just incase you missed it

Chemutai Syndia

Chemutai Syndia, a female Ugandan lawyer, graduated from Uganda Christian University Honours College in 2022. Her time at the college was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced all activities online. Undeterred, Syndia and her friends Emmanuella and Martin founded the *Alliance for Rights*, an online platform to address human rights violations in refugee camps.

During her academic journey, Syndia faced challenges with tuition due to the pandemic’s economic impact. However, a fortuitous meeting with Mama Maggie, arranged by Madam Pamela Tumwebaze, provided unexpected financial aid, allowing her to continue her studies and graduate.

After completing her undergraduate degree, Syndia pursued her postgraduate bar course at the Law Development Center, where she encountered further difficulties. Yet, her unwavering faith and connections with supportive individuals saw her through tough times.

With her strong network and passion for leadership and human rights advocacy, Syndia applied for the Chauvin Scholarships in the UK. She impressed the scholarship committee with her project idea for refugee rights and was granted the scholarship to pursue a Master of Laws at the prestigious University of Leeds.

Syndia attributes her success to her unshakeable faith in God, which carried her through challenges from struggling with tuition balances to earning a fully funded scholarship for her dream degree in England. Now, as she prepares to embark on this new chapter, Syndia sees returning to Uganda Christian University as coming back home, and she believes her story can inspire and impact countless others who face similar hurdles.

In conclusion, Syndia’s journey from Honours College to her upcoming master’s program is a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and strong network support. Her inspiring story serves as a beacon of hope for those facing adversity, reminding us to put our trust in God first and never give up on our dreams.
