SHARE A SKILL

The writer with youths in the local communities

My name is Miriam litany Pakrwoth, a graduate with a bachelor’s in Human Rights peace, and humanitarian intervention and waiting to graduate from Honours College. I joined Honors College in 2020 and due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown; I started my college classes in 2021. Share a skill is a service project birthed from an assignment at Honors College. We envision empowering community members so they can empower their fellows through discipleship, skilling, and entrepreneurship. We have worked on two projects so far, that is the 50day Elite series with the teenage moms and youth of Buguju, Mukono district and the teenage mothers of Madi Okollo. In total, we have reached out to a total of about 100 youths together with teenage mothers. We surveyed these communities and found out that due to the closure of schools, a number of youth didn’t get to enrol into online classes.

On the other hand, some do not have the gadgets and the internet bundles to access classes. When we asked them what their leaders were doing about it, they said nothing.  The other challenge we encountered was the number of teenage mothers in the community. They have been faced with challenges such as shame, and abandonment by parents and fathers of their children. So we developed a program for these youth and teenage mothers. We have various topics we are dealing with such as purpose, identity, gifts, talents, financial literacy and entrepreneurship. We are also sharing various skills such as baking, shoe making, soap, and lotion making. We have been privileged to partner with the Uganda Red Cross Society Mukono branch and Life ministry Uganda in this project. Through these projects, we have won 52 lives for Christ, who have been discipled by Life Ministry Uganda and all of the 100 youth are skilled. All the glory goes back to King Jesus.
