On Saturday 5th November 2022, the first session of “The Mending” series was successfully held in Nkoyoyo Hall. The event was attended by students from within UCU as well as the student leaders of Bishop Senior Secondary School. We were graced by speakers such as Mr Robinson Asiimwe, Mr Otim Ivan, Mr Gonza Nsubuga among others.
Mr Otim Ivan from The Dad Base shared his testimony and the need for fathers in society. Rev. Kaggwa noted that “Not all men are fathers but all fathers are men.” Alot of emphasis was put the need for mentorship in society and all men present at the event were encouraged to father even those who were not their biological children through guidance and living an exemplary life. Mr Asiimwe Robinson emphasized the need for fathers to be available, he used the metaphor of a train, comparing the father in society to the locomotive of a train. The locomotive drags the rest of the train along and that is what a father should do in a family, rather than simply pointing the family ahead. The speakers unanimously agreed that their is a difference between siring a child and fathering one. It was thus a call to action, for fathers to be present, and active in the lives of their children.
A proceeding webinar shall be held on 10th November 2022 as a follow up event with emphasis on the different aspects that encompass manhood. This webinar is open to all interested persons.
