I had anticipated the fun and excitement I was going to experience with my fellow scholars. I woke up effortlessly, this time, and got myself ready. Getting ready for the USP Welcome Party was simple; it involved looking presentable in a pair of blue jean trousers and a t-shirt. As soon as the mirror told me that my appearance was satisfactory enough, I sent my friends a text alerting them that I was going straight to the party venue.
They too joined me in the excitement
We danced, ate food, played various indoor & outdoor games and generally made our new guests feel comfortable. By the time the party ended we had already forgotten that they were guests. They had become part of us.
One of my favourite times was when scholars were tasked to mention what they loved doing. Vivian said “I love eating food”, her mind’s eye was on the sumptuous meal which was being assembled on the table, while Elizabeth said “I love dancing and being in the presence of God”; we definitely requested her to show us how she dances – less than a minute later, we all joined in the dance.
We love spending time together, in the presence of God. We love it, even more, when we host new students on the exchange programme and introduce them to our lifestyles. We want the USP students to enjoy themselves this semester …. They may even choose to stay thereafter, who knows?
