The Honours College is a constituent programme of Uganda Christian University and its Leadership Development Initiative. Conceived in May 2002, the Initiative is a response to the urgent need for Christian leadership in the country. Its purpose is to prepare a cadre of leaders with a high sense of integrity. The Honours College is the 'home' for students who have been chosen for their leadership potential.
Rather, it is enhanced in a community of love, care and support. Honours College provides its students with such a community.Honours College, thus, existing as a community of learning, draws heavily from Paolo Freire's celebrated statement, "What we learn is most powerfully shaped by those with whom we learn." This statement forms the philosophy for this community of learning. It underscores the corporate nature of the learning process, and the Honours College being a place where students are nurtured.
The Honours College envisions being the Heartbeat of the Centre of Excellence in the Heart of Africa.
To bring out the best in those who have distinguished themselves
in their Christian character, academics and leadership roles. This mission is to be achieved
through curricular and extra-curricular activities.
It is hoped that through these activities, students will be empowered to think critically and creatively about how their faith informs their academic and professional goals.
